Nini Chine studied fashion design at the Fashion School, Northumbria University. After a brief period in the fashion industry, she decided to return to academic studies and earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Buckingham. She was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1999 and practiced as a certified lawyer for many years before relocating to Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong, Nini Chine established Studioimooi, an interior design and brand marketing firm that represented various furniture brands in the Asian market. In 2021, she obtained her postgraduate research degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During this time, she conducted extensive research into the psychological effects and mental well-being of marginalized populations, particularly in the post-COVID era.
Her educational background, and her rich tapestry of culturally diverse experiences, profoundly inform and shape her approach to design and artmaking. Her research interests focus on the role of materiality in drawing and painting as potential interventions for emotion regulation. This includes exploring the choices of mediums used, the processes involved, and the sensory experiences of both the artist and the viewer. Her goal is to use art as a tool for effectively communicating messages and raising awareness across various cultures and political divides to promote women's health and well-being.
